question and answer...

It's "Book of Questions" post time. Who's excited? No one? Okay fine. If you are new to the blog (as I see a few of you are, 39 followers holla!) then please click here. Then if you would like to go back and read ALL of the posts from this epic book...feel free to do so.

Alright I am flipping (through the book of course...not like ACTUALLY flipping out) as we speak (type)...and the question is...

Question #77: Do you feel at ease going alone to either dinner or a movie? What about going on a vacation all by yourself?

Answer: Sorry this question is pretty darn lamespice if you ask me...but I must follow my own rules and answer whichever question I flip to..ugh.

I am totally fine going to dinner or a movie by myself! Sometimes I actually prefer it. A guy I used to date HATED when I would call him and be like, "Hey...I know we had plans but I am going to scrap those plans to have some me time." I would then proceed to head on over to whichever restaurant we were planning on going to and taking a book and eating by myself. He would get wicked pissed...I must admit it was a little funny!

Same thing with movies...sometimes seeing a movie all by yourself is awesome. I don't do that one too often though because most of the time someone I know wants to see the same thing so we just group it up and go together.

While I am a-ok with doing things solo I don't think I would be into going on vacation by my lonesome. To me vacations are fun because of the people you go with! If no one comes with you who is going to take pictures? And let you taste their yummy restaurant food? Who would ride in/on the plane/train/or automobile with you? It would be SO boring (kind of like this post).

So...I say heck-to-the-yes for solo dinner and movies! Heck-to-the-no for solo vacations....

I know I have let y'all down greatly with this post. It is looking like my 'funny' took a solo vacation and left me alone!

Anywho...answer this question in the comment section! What do YOU think about solo adventures (and no I did NOT mean that in a dirty way)?! Also, if you are a new friend o' the blog...introduce yourself (alcoholics anonymous style) I would love to meet you!
xoxo

DUDE. I love this question because everyone I know makes fun of me and thinks i'm crazy for going to a movie alone. Then they get mad because I didn't invite them to come with me. I love going to the movies alone. I learn so much about myself! It's crazy.

Now, a vacation. that would be fun. I think I would have a fantastic time if I went alone on a vacation. I like to hang out with myself.. I'm pretty cool. ha

I enjoy time to myself. Sometimes it is just necessary for remaining sane. When I was in college I would totally go eat by myself or go to a movie by myself, living in a dorm and being in a sorority made life crazy, so it was nice to get away from people for a while. I haven't done it since I graduated though, no real reason why.

I travel a little for work, sometimes with people, sometimes not. So I am all about going out on adventures while I'm gone for work. However, I would not want to go on vacation by myself. Most of the fun of going on vacation is sharing it with people you care about!

Actually, being ok with eating/seeing a movie alone is a point of pride for me recently. I used to be horribly intimidated by the thought of being seen by myself in public--I think it doesn't help that I go to this tiny college with cafeterias that resemble my worst high school memories. However, over the course of college I've gotten more and more confident at just doing my thing and not thinking about what other people are thinking. I think my study abroad experience really helped with that too, because I didn't want to miss out on a thing so if my friends were all sleeping in, I'd just go wander around the city and grab breakfast by myself with no second thoughts.

Oh! And while Myers-Briggs says I am a moderate extrovert (...I've been working with career services lately, haha...) I also have introvert tendencies and I definitely treasure some ME time. I completely get that.

I'm so happy to have met you Alexandria--I love new friends and I love your blog. I guess to formally introduce myself: Hi, I'm Katie and I'm the one who will leave obnoxiously long comments on most blog posts. I'm a rambler, but I'm seeking help. Also, you are completely awesome. Good day! :)

I heart your blog. A lot!

I love going to the movies by myself. Of course I love going with company but its so nice to go and not have to share your popcorn and you can just be by yourself. My family and friends think I am crazy but I am glad that someone else is like me :)

I've gone to the movies alone before and actually enjoy it, especially if it's a movie that makes me cry because then I have no one making fun of me for crying. So movies are okay.

As for dinner, I can't do it. I like to talk when I eat. My husband is the OPPOSITE and can go to dinner alone but doesn't like to go to movies alone.

As for a solo vacation - no way. What's the fun in that!?!

Sometimes I like going to restaurants and stuff by myself, but I love going to movies with my friends- just because I don't go often, and it's fun to laugh with a friend, and also that I like to talk... :D Not out loud, but if I see something interesting, it'll kill me if I can't tell someone!

Id have to agree that vacas are for sharing experiences with your fav peeps... But having tiny solo adventures might be nice...

As for movies, sure I;d go see one by myself if NO ONE wanted to go.. But I just thank God I work (for now) at a movie theatre and srsly, free movies! I usually don't have a problem finding someone to go with. [But strangely enough, sometimes I do!]

And dinners, I'm on the fence with...

Really I am just a social person. And I also change me mind a lot. And I like me time.

So. Hm. Where was I going!?

Hello. In relation to this question, would you go to a dance alone?

Alexandria said...

Sam rules because he is a male and commented! You win!

I would not go to a dance club by myself. The only way those places are fun is if you are with friends.

I would go to an 'event' by myself. Such as a cocktail party or wedding something like that..

First, congrats on the 40 followers, holla!!!!!!!

Second, I am all about movies and dinner by myself. I go to movies by myself all the time...I used to go about once a week. I don't eat by myself as much, but that's just me.

As for vacations, I go for work on trips all the time, and I'm not as big a fan, I mean I enjoy doing stuff by myself, but I would rather share it with someone else. However, I could do a yoga retreat/spa day/long weekend by myself no problem.

that's just me though...

I totally wish I could go solo. I spend much less money when I do. I am too worried that people are looking at me sideways. It is a nasty fear I have. (sideways as in funny....judging....etc.)

eating and going to a movie would be just fine going alone! it's actually really nice sometimes.

as far as vacation...i want someone with me. someone needs to take pics! but i agree with ashton. i could do a spa retreat by myself no problem!

You now have 40 followers! One more than you had when you posted which means this was not a lamespice post!!
Ok. Because I am always with someone 24/7 and rarely get me time. I would definitely do anything alone. I love to go to the bathroom alone :)
I would agree tho... I don't want to go on vacation alone. I love to be with my husband and talk to him about everything, plus I see things in a different light when he is around. A new perspective when you go with someone.
If I were to go to a movie or eat out alone, I think I would feel alone right now. I am so accustomed to having some one with me all the time. Hmmm...
So- delete the first part and put me down for a friend or my husband for the first two and at least my husband for the third.
I guess my alone time will just need to be in the bathroom for now.
You poor woman, this was a long response.
Love you!

first time commenting! woot woot!

I don't mind going to movies by myself. Especially if the movie has been out for awhile and you go during the middle of the day and there is hardly anyone there. I always seem to pick the worst seats that have the annoying people around me.

I haven't really eaten out alone before but if I have something else to do such as school work then I wouldn't mind.

oh and i'm rachael. nice to *meet* you!

I just recently went to a movie by myself for the first time ever...New Moon. I found a random aquantaince to see it with me the first time, but then wanted to see it 2 more times, so I just went. Not so bad...at all! I did feel a little strange before the movie started while everyone was chatting with friends. I may have pretended to be texting. I also will travel by myself, or go to museums and whatnot.
I haven't eaten by myself much at restaurants with waiters/waitresses, but do all the time at more casual sandwich places.
Fun blog! I just found it. :)

Hey there! I stumbled onto your blog from Amy's (My LaLa Land) and CRACKED UP at your New Moon post... that's when I knew I had to follow!

As for me, I'm all for solo anything. Eating out is a little awkward alone, and I don't mind it, but eating out with a big group is tons more fun for me. But movies--I don't know why people have to go in groups because you're sitting there quietly watching a movie, not really interacting. And vacations, I think I could go either way. It might be fun to do your own thing and not have to worry about doing other people's things, but it also might get lonely.

Girl, I wish I had the courage to go to the movies or to dinner alone. I'm so self conscious I have a hard time going to the grocery store alone! You're awesome!

I LOVE eating and going to the movies alone. I just feel so independent!

I would never go on a vacation alone though. That just seems so lonely!

I think going on a vacation alone is totally fine and actually did it once.
Going to the movies alone isn't that bad either (I did that while being on vacation alone), but going out to dinner alone... Probably never do that (which is why I ended up not eating very much when on that vacation, ha!)

i just read your blog for the first time today and i think your questions idea is great. i may even start this up on my blog since i never have anything to talk about.

i have never gone to the movies or a restaurant alone.. why? i dunno... i'm an introvert so i probably should be fine with this but i dont even like going shopping alone.

well well well, i have to say i had never really liked going to lunch and dinner alone until recently when mr. c couldn't come, i would go alone and i kinda liked it. now i don't mind it at all. but i am the kind of girl who likes her some company! vacations tho....not only NO...!!!

Hello my name is Anna and I am addicted to holiday tea. Just started reading your blog because it is funny, entertaining, real, and deep all at the same time :)

I LOVE seeing movies alone, because I get more sucked into the plot with no one to distract me. I have never gone to a sit-down restaurant alone and would feel weird, but I have been to coffee shops/sandwich places etc. Usually I'd rather save money and make my own food! Vacations...depends where it is. If it is somewhere relaxing I would have fun by myself but if it is somewhere new and exciting I would definitely wish I had someone to share. This is a 3 in one question; no wonder everyone's comments are novels!!!

i went to see a movie a few weeks ago by myself and felt like a tard. and cold. so It doesn't work well for me. lol. Going to a restaurant solo probably wouldn't either. I'd always be looking around worrying that people would kidnap me or something. {i'm a little weird like that!}

Hello Everybody!!! I'm Grace. I'm new to the blogging world; I recently started my first new blog ever! And it's my first time visiting this blog as well. :D

I don't really like to go solo to the movies or to dinner. It makes me feel self-conscious and like a loner. Ha. I think it's so much funner when you go to places with your friends. However, shopping is something that I love to do solo once in awhile. I like to take the time to try out all the cute outfits and not having to think that there's someone outside the dressing room waiting for me, or that I'm boring someone to death.

maya said...

I am totally the opposite. I would never see a movie alone, who would wake me up at the end? I'm like a four year old, I cannot sit still through a whole movie. But I would LOVE to vacation alone.

Melissa said...

Interesting. I can do the solo movie thing but its my freaking dream to get to the point where I go to a restaurant by myself. I'm not there yet. Mostly cause I feel like a restaurant is so much more awkward than a movie. I've heard bringing a book helps. But most of the time I just am like.. why leave the house to eat alone when I can just order in and get the job done. Like I said... I'm working up to it. I do agree tho. Sometimes I love going to movies by myself. Makes me happy.

I agree...I actually really like going to movies by myself. It's fun. I used to wander all over Paris by myself too...I miss that a lot. I'd definitely go on a vacation by myself if the opportunity came up.
