fill in the blank friday {8.}...

I am very much in love with the theme for this weeks 'Fill In The Blank Friday'. It is all things movie related...and I am a total movie fanatic! Thanks again to the lovely Lauren who comes up with these every single week. Make sure to check out her blog 'The Little Things We Do' and then link up!

{1.} My absolute favorite movie of all time is a tie between 'Across the Universe' and 'Silence of the Lambs'. This questions is SO difficult...it is like asking someone to pick a favorite child.

{2.} My favorite movie as a child was 'The Little Mermaid' hands down. My mom says that I talked her into taking me to the theatre 5 times to see it. Then when it came out on VHS (old school, holla)I watched it every single day for years.

{3.} The best movie quote ever is "I ask this... If there should be an assassination, I would hope that five, ten, one hundred, a thousand would rise. I would like to see every gay lawyer, every gay architect come out - - If a bullet should enter my brain, let that bullet destroy every closet door... And that's all. I ask for the movement to continue. Because it's not about personal gain, not about ego, not about power... it's about the "us's" out there. Not only gays, but the Blacks, the Asians, the disabled, the seniors, the us's. Without hope, the us's give up - I know you cannot live on hope alone, but without it, life is not worth living. So you, and you, and you... You gotta give em' hope... you gotta give em' hope." It is from the movie 'Milk' about the life of Harvey Milk.

{4.} My favorite actress is Kate Winslet. She is fabulous and can pull off any role. I adore her. My favorite actor is
Anthony Hopkins. He is perfection.

{5.} The movie I could watch over and over is
'Steel Magnolias'. I have seen in a bazillion times and it never gets old. I love it so bad.

{6.} My favorite movie genre is musicals, duh! People breaking out into song whenever the mood strikes? Um..yes please!

{7.} A movie I'd like to watch this weekend is 'It's Complicated', I love me some Meryl Streep. I actually just purchased the movie and WILL be watching it this weekend. Yay!

Now it is your turn! Let's discuss our favorite movies in the comments section!

Oh Friday...I am SO glad you are finally here. Have a fabulous weekend my loves!

the other shoe...

I have something to admit to you all. I absolutely ADORE Tori Spelling. Yep, you read that correctly, I l-o-v-e her. Her character was my favorite on the OG 90210, and I am obsessed with her reality show 'Tori and Dean'. I have now read both of her books, I just finished up 'Mommywood' (which was FABULOUS but not quite as good as 'Stori Telling').

Okay so now that my confession is out of the way, I need to get to the point of this post. In the last chapter of the book Tori writes,

"I've come far, but my life came together so quickly that sometimes I still feel like I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop. I can't believe how fortunate I am, and I worry that my perfect little dream will burst and everything will fall apart. I have to remind myself that the life I'm living isn't really a miracle. I have worked hard for what I have. I continue to work every day to sustain what we have and to make it better. But if things change, I'll weather it. I have my family and my friends to help me through it. And besides, this whole "other shoe" business--who ever said that the other shoe was a bad thing? Two shoes? Sounds good to me. Especially if they're Christian Louboutin."

Amen. I find myself constantly waiting for the other shoe to drop...but now I will look at that shoe as the other half of a pair of those gorgeous red soled heels and think, "Um...let the shoe drop! I am going out dancing."

Wise words from Ms. Spelling.

six senses sunday {1}...

I have said it before, and I will say it again, I love blogging and the fact that I have legit blog pals who come up with genius ideas. Such as this post idea...which I totally stole from the lovely Kat. If you don't read her blog...well then I just don't know what to say to you. Well, other than go freaking read it...and add her on Twitter because she is hilar.

Right about now I am...

{1.} Tasting...
Water. Riveting right? I mean seriously...does it get any more dull than that? Probs not. But you all know how I do...I keep it real.

{2.} Smelling...
A combo of the Spring air through the window and a strawberry scented candle of deliciousness. No. Seriously. It smells so good that I almost would consider eating it...

{3.} Seeing...
Um. Obviously the screen of my computer. I mean I am typing...what else could I really see? Well in my peripheral I can see all the homework I should be doing...but who wants to pay attention to that? Not this gal.

{4.} Hearing...
A combination of the Glee version of 'Bust A Move' and a wicked annoying bird that is going chirp crazy outside. Shanking may go down...hmmm...I bet the little birdie biatch smells my strawberry candle and is hollering because he wants a bite.
{5.} Touching...
Myself. Bahaha. Kidding. I am touching the keys on my computer. Obvi.

{6.} Feeling...
Exhausted. Like I need sleep in a wicked bad way. I am also highly stressed out about my freaking pigeon lecture midterm that is occurring on Thursday. I know it sounds like a joke of a class but eff it is not easy. Not in the freaking slightest. Wish my sorry self luck, please?!

I hope all of you loveys had a fabulous weekend.

nowhere to run, nowhere to hide...

Dude. I had no clue who this Justin Bieber kid is. You know the one...the kid who sings/dances/plays with his hair/is like 16 but looks 12, that one. Well I finally witnessed this little boy singing on Oprah or Ellen or something...was I impressed? Meh. Not really. But seriously the planet is obsessed with J-Bieber. It is creeping into every facet of my life...and I am not okay with it. Well, let me clarify. I was not okay with it, until Tuesday.

Why yes, Justin Bieber was a topic of conversation in my Elements of Learning and Memory class. I hate this class. It is hard, and boring, and the teacher is weird. He is 30 and already has his doctorate and has zero social skills...so in sum he is kind of an ass. He also has no sense of humor...or so I thought. So we were discussing the concept of 'escape' and 'avoidance' which is basically just classical conditioning behavior reinforcement. Witness this exact (yes I actually wrote this in my notes) lesson that took place in Tuesdays lecture:

Dr. Romanowich: "So to clarify: to 'escape' a negative stimulus one is already in the presence of said negative stimulus. To 'avoid' a negative stimulus one has to engage in a behavior so they never come into contact with said negative stimulus."

Random Student: "Do you think you could give us a real-life example? The book doesn't explain these concepts very clearly."

Dr. Romanowich: "Sure. So, let's say you need a ride from a friend because your car is in the shop. You climb into your friends car and he turns the radio up and is blasting some Justin Bieber, so you then throw open the car door and launch your body out of a moving vehicle in order to get away from Justin Bieber's music. That is 'escape'.

Every Student in Class: "Bahahahahahaha."

Dr. Romonawich: "So, now let's say you need a ride from that same friend who tried to torture you with Justin Bieber, but you know you cannot handle hearing the music again so you sneak to his car and rip the stereo out of the console. That way you do not come into contact with the negative stimulus that is Justin Bieber's music. That is 'avoidance'."

Some Girl in Class: "But I like Justin Bieber."

Every Student in Class, Minus the Girl Who Loves J-Bieber: "Bahahahahaha."

Dr. Romanowich: "Did that help? Any more questions?"

There you have it folks. There is officially nowhere to hide...Bieber-Mania is taking over. Oy vey!

i am a picture failure...

So a couple of weeks ago this California gal left her beloved state...in order to go to land of the freaking snow. In case you are not yet aware, I d-e-s-p-i-s-e the snow. I hate it with the passion of a thousand fiery suns. Why? It is cold, it is wet, things freeze, I am a klutz, and I slip and fall. Overall, I just no likey the snow. But, I do happen to like quite a few people who happen to reside in that state. While I was in Utah...I was such a failure. Yeah, I sucked it up BIG time. Why? Because I took a total of three pictures in the four days I was there. Yeah, I know. What the eff was I thinking?!

Anywho, since I only took a few photographs I figured I would do a short but sweet Utah picture post. I would do a longer post...but school is killing me right now and I just don't have the time. Without further ado...

I love these people. A lot. They are all fabulous and amazing:
I got to meet and spend time with some of my iBffs. Who are now real life bffs. If you don't already know Shannon and Shelby...well then you need to venture over to their blogs and get to know them!

I also got to hang out with Jeffrey (who I will not link to; in order to protect his anonymity. bahaha). We did all sorts of fun things...he got to listen to me throw a bitch-fit about the snow and how freaking cold it was. We also went to Five Guys for burgers...um...can we say delish? Then we attended two of the General Conference sessions (if you are not aware what that is, clickity click here and you can see)! It was all around fun times!

Ever wonder what it looks like when almost 30,000 Mormon's leave a building at the exact same time? No? Well, now at least you can say that you do in fact know what it looks like. Also, check out the prettiness of the Salt Lake Temple...yeah it is totes beautiful.

Okay, so yes I know lame Utah recap...and I totally take all of the blame. I promise that any future trips I go on, I will force myself to photo document my adventures. This post? Short and sweet. Just like I promised. Now this exhausted gal is off to bed!

fill in the blank friday {7.}...

It's time for 'Fill in the Blank Friday'! I love these lovely little end of the week posts! Make sure to do your own fill in the blank post and then head on over to Lauren's blog to link up! On we go...

{1.} The first thing I do in the morning is make my bed. I cannot fully start my morning until my bed is made. Yes, I do know that I am slightly OCD. I have learned to embrace my crazy.

{2.} Every night before bed I read. It calms me down...and helps make me sleepy.

{3.} My favorite thing to do when I'm having a bad day is
to turn on some angry music and sing at the top of my lungs all while dancing it out.

{4.} Something that makes me cringe is
when people use racist terms. It makes my skin crawl and is just awful.

{5.} Social situations
are fun! I like meeting new folks, or hanging out with folks that I already know. I can pretty much talk to anyone, so I am good.

{6.} I like to collect anything that is flamingo related. I have a love for all things flamingo. Why? No clue. But I l-o-v-e them so bad. I embrace the tacky.

{7.} Weekends are for catching up on homework unfortunately. But they are also when I get to spend time with my niece so that is always a fabulous thing.

Have a fabulous weekend lovey dolls!

urban hilarity {2}...

By now you all should know how much I adore Urban Dictionary. It is seriously hilarious and can entertain me like no other. Now it is time for the second installation of, 'Awesome words/phrases that I learned on Urban Dictionary that I will now start to use in real life.' Click here for the first installment of Urban Hilarity...

{1.} Stealth-Call: When you have to call someone back but don't want to talk to them, so you wait until you know they can't talk and leave a voicemail.
My commentary: I am such a stealth-caller. I honestly hate quick voice on voice conversations...I will for sure wait until I know someone cannot answer and call them to leave a quick message. I then will 'forget' to answer my phone when they return my call. I am officially glad I now have a name for my ninja-like call skills. Holla.

{2.} Bitchcopter: When someone is being an extreme bitch.
My commentary: This word is SO much win. I mean honestly, sometimes just calling someone a 'bitch' just isn't enough. Now we all have the word to use to address someones uber-supreme-bitchy ways.

{3.} Redneck Teleprompter: Crib notes written on a public speaker's hand in order to remind him or HER what to say during a speech or interview.
My commentary: Really? Really?! I am sorry but I don't care what side of the political aisle YOU hang out on...this is straight up hilarious. I mean c'mon. We all know S-Palin totes utilized a redneck teleprompter about a month ago. It was caught on tape...and it was freaking epic.

{4.} Understandment: The combination of understanding and agreement. Used when talking about an informal commitment. For example: "We are not dating, but we have an understandment not to fool around with other people."
My commentary: I just think this is pure genius. I mean, I am always down with a mashup of wordage. Plus, it is a time saver. Ftmfw. Understandment?

{5.} Cratazy: When you get so crazy, you need a new word for it in order to show just how epic it was.
My commentary: Um. Story of my freaking life. Loves it.

Now do you all see why I spend so much time over at Urban Dictionary? Yeah. Because it is totes legit. So, let's all do our parts and make these words happen, aight? Leave a comment telling me which one was YOUR favorite.

double trouble {1.}...

On Saturday I invited Bff Jil over to the H-Family household for dinner. She has her four year old nephew Jacob for the WEEK...and I had my four year old niece Jordan for the weekend. These two kids L-O-V-E playing with each other...for proof click here and here. They are double trouble...no lie. They are also absolutely hilarious to watch. Would you like to see why?

*Click that link and you will be slain.*

Please excuse my annoying laugh throughout the video...also excuse the fact that I laugh like crazy whenever one of the children fall. Yep, I am a mean aunt.

I am pretty sure these two are going to end up either married...or in jail...just sayin'...

My little Bug and myself. The cutest niece ever...I will fight you on that one...

Bff Jil and her little man Jake & Bake...yes he does have lit up goggles on his head...don't judge him. That is how he rolls...

I hope everyone had a fabulous weekend! Happy Monday lovey dolls!

lovely...

Have I ever mentioned how much I love the blogging community? I know the blogging community is ginormous and like 500 billion-million people blog...but I mean MY blogging community. Ok, not that I own it...but the fabulous group of people I am a part of...the subsection of blogging where I reside. I have met SO many amazing people in my nine months of blogging. People who I know will always be a part of my life. It is lovely.

The longer I blog the more fabulous people I come into contact with. What am I getting at with this mushy lovefest? I am getting to the part where I was freaking out on Twitter the other night because I was failing at creating a new header for my blog and one of my lovely iBffs came to my rescue.

Yep. Correct. The always sweet Sam surprised me with making a header for me! I didn't even ask! She just took the time to create something that is SO me. I am in love with it. Please, look at the top of this blog and love it, okay? Then when you are done doing that make your way on over to Sam's blog! You will love her, if you don't already!

fill in the blank friday {6.}...

It has been so long since I have participated in Fill in the Blank Friday! Join me in filling these blanks, either in a post on your own blog or in the comments section. Then head on over to Lauren's blog and link up! Here we go...

{1.} The strangest thing I've ever eaten was deer? I am so not a weird food eater. I am not big on trying new things. I know what I like, and I like what I know. Yes, I am aware that makes me boring.

{2.} My best friend is not just one person. My bffs are kind, funny, supportive, and the loves o' my life.

{3.} If I could live in a different era it would be if I HAD to switch eras I would say the 60s...if only for the epic music. Although, I am partial to the era I live in now. My inner-feminist would die in any other time.

{4.} I like when I find people who love TWSS jokes as much as I do. I mean they pretty much make my life.

{5.} If you only know one thing about me it should be that when I get mad, like REALLY mad, I give warnings that people need to drop it. If they don't I get really vicious with my words. Not the most attractive trait, but it's how I do.

{6.} My favorite book of all time is The Bell Jar tied which is tied with The Harry Potter Series.

{7.} The one beauty product I couldn't live without is my cocoa butter lotion. I love it so bad...and my skin would be sick and dry without it. No bueno.

{8.} Blogging is amazing. I adore this little blog o' mine. It is fun, a good outlet, and I have met SO many amazing people through blogging.-

{9.} If I could star in a movie with any actor/actress I would want to work with Robert Pattinson, duh! Is that even a question? It is not because he is a stellar actor...because we all know he is not. But I would love to get all makey outey with him( and by 'get all makey outey' I totally mean 'nail him to the wall'). Amen.

{10.} One of the best feelings in the world is being surrounded by the people you love. There really is nothing that tops that.

question and answer...

So...remember when I was kind of an entertaining blogger? You know. The good ol' days when school and crazy life business didn't get in the way of me being able to bring you a post at least four times a week? Yep. Those were fun times. I was struggling today with what to write about. I want to get back into the regular habit of blogging...and then it clicked! I need to do a 'The Book of Questions' post! Are you new around here? Well here is the introductory post...you can read that and then click on the 'Book of Questions' label at the bottom of this post if you are so inclined to see ALL of these posts. On we go...

And I flipped the book to...
Question #45: Someone very close to you is in pain, paralyzed, and will die within a month. He begs you to give him poison so that he can die. Would you? What if it were your father?

Answer: Um. Well that is a feel good question if I have ever heard one. It is times like this when I wish I could break my own rule and flip to a different question. But alas I am a control freak...and I must abide by the rules...

This is a tough question. It is like 'Million Dollar Baby' tough (have you all seen that movie? um. devastating). I fully believe in doctor assisted suicide. I think it is a persons right to choose, while in the right mind set, if they would want to live or die if they are in a medical situation such as the one in the question. I personally would not want to live in pain, and be paralyzed in bed for a month or months on end. That is MY opinion on that.

However, when it comes to doing that for someone else...I do not think I could do it. I do have a little experience in this area. As many of my blog friends know, my dad passed away from cancer in November. During the last two weeks of his life he was in a hospital bed at home, where he couldn't move, eat, or really speak. It was shocking to see this once boisterous ball busting man diminished to 70-something pounds. He was in pain despite the medication. It was a horrible thing to see. All any of us wanted to do was to make the whole ordeal be over as quickly as possible. If I would have been brave enough I maybe would have considered helping him pass, but as it was the only thing I could do was kiss his forehead and whisper to him, "Dad, we are all here. We love you. It is okay to go. Please go. It's okay now."

There is no chance that I could have ended his life for him, even if he was able to beg me to do so. Did I want his pain to end? Of course. But I just could not live with the knowledge that I had done such a thing. All I could offer to him were those simple words. Therefore, since I wouldn't be able to do it for my own father, I most certainly would not be able to do it for a stranger.

Wow. That was heavy. At least for me it was. Alright, now for the best part! Let's have a discussion in the comments section...what is YOUR answer to this question? Please share!

xoxo

this one is for you...

If you have been reading this blog for awhile now you should know who Bff Jil is. Well, today is a very special day. Homegirl is having a birthday! On this day 30 looooong years ago (sorry Jily, that is the ONLY old joke I will make) Bff Jil was born. This post is for you Jily.

Jilian is many things. She is a daughter, granddaughter, sister, aunt, and a niece. But to me, she is one of my very best friends on the planet. Why? Well, let me mansplain it to you...

Why yes, sometimes we DO write our names in the sand like couples do. Jealous? Don't worry though...we are a couple but it is strictly a hetero-female kinship thing.

Sometimes Bff Jil and I tan WAY too much in the summer...but we then love the photos because our teeth look blingin' white. Word.

Sometimes we take pictures and make the exact same face without even realizing it...and then we cannot remember why on Earth we were making said faces...

Sometimes we both go through hard times. This past year we both have had deaths in our families. When Jil's younger sister passed away I was there for her. I called and emailed and tried to take her mind off things. That is what SHE needed. When my dad passed away Jil sent a text saying she was sorry and asking how I was. I told her 'thank you' and 'fine'. She left it at that. She didn't text anymore, call, or email. Why? Because that is what I needed. I didn't need comfort, I needed space. Even though it killed her to do so...she let me have my space and come to her when I was ready. She knows me well.

Sometimes Jil makes me try new things. Like camping. At the age of 23 I had never been camping...well that was remedied by Jilian. She somehow twisted my arm into going. While I am still not a camping gal...I am glad that I at least tried.

Sometimes I try to get Jil to do crazy things with me...like protest. See? It is give and take with us. I go camping with her, she goes protesting with me. It is a fabulous system.

Sometimes we take the first picture we have even taken together (yes, this picture) and we then continue to take pictures together in the EXACT same position. We have dubbed it, 'The Signature Pose'.

Sometimes we go to "the rodeo" every single year. Yes, by "the rodeo" I totally DO mean not attending one second of the actual rodeo, and going to the bar by where the rodeo is located for the dance at night. Basically, just to drink beer and dance with cowboys.

Sometimes we sit around and shoot the breeze for h-o-u-r-s. We gossip. We bitch. We talk about EVERYTHING on the planet. I mean really, in our friendship there is no topic that is off limits. We actually probably share FAR too much with one another now that I think about it.

Sometimes we get wastey faced and take pictures that make both of us cringe. Um...seriously Jil? What the eff were we doing here?

Sometimes one of my favorite things about Bff Jil is that she too embraces the trashy with me. What do I mean by this? In the picture above the two of us were enjoying a lovely fine dining experience at our favorite restaurant. Oh, what restaurant? Hooters. Yes. You did read that right. We l-o-v-e Hooters. Holla, chicken wings AND fried pickles! Holla.

Sometimes Bff Jil and I can be uber-biatches. We are snarky, mouthy, and two overly opinionated broads. Like if you ever overheard a conversation between us...you would think we were enemies a la Edward and Jacob. A typical conversation between us:

Jil: This shirt is cute.

Me: *Blank stare*

Jil: Or not.

Me: Yeah...not. It is fug. Srsly. If you buy that our friendship is done.

Jil: Shut up. You own a shirt that has elephants on it.

Me: Eff you! I love that shirt.

Jil: You would. I am buying this shirt.

Me: Sweet. You should get some stirrup leggings to match.

Sometimes even though to others we may look like enemies, we really could not be closer. She is my sarcastic soul-mate. My sister in all things snark. We joke and say horrible things to each other, and the amazing part? Nothing is ever taken seriously. It is a joke and we both know it. We have said many times, "And that is why we are friends." Truth.

Sometimes the reasons why we are such legit friends...cannot be expressed in spoken word. Only photos like this can suffice.

Happy Birthday Jilian! Last year was quite the bitch...this year needs to kick some serious trash. You are not so much a friend to me now you are family, and that is the absolute truth. You are one of the best friends I have ever had. I love you Jily! Have a fabulous day! Be sure to start drinking your Metamucil and applying wrinkle cream...you are getting up there old lady (okay sorry. I know I promised only one old joke but I could not resist)!

Blog friends please join me in wishing Jil a Happy Birthday in the comment section!

xoxo
